The ballots have been cast and counted. We have selected our new Council. The challenges and issues you face will be numerous and onerous and we are confident in your ability to meet them head on with our best interests in mind. We look to you for leadership with integrity, honesty and transparency. Our first challenge to you is to clear the air and start afresh by explaining to us why the Library and Resource Center amalgamation planned for early 2007 became a takeover in August 2006, why the Resource Center board was dissolved, and why Lannie Reynolds was dismissed. As a community we need to acknowledge, nurture, and honor our dedicated volunteers and staff if we hope provide a healthy, supportive environment for the children and taxpayers of North Kawartha. Editors Note: We wish to thank the out going Deputy Reeve Warren Smith
for his many years of service to our community.

Bill Dulmage, Community Member Extraordinaire |
|
On November 15th a day of appreciation was held in Bill Dulmage’s honour. It all started with a few phone calls by Jim Dudley to get some friends and family to drop by the Legion and show appreciation for all the hard work Bill has done in our community. Don Grant piped in Bill on his arrival to the enjoyment of over 40 people who were in attendance. Bill has been working in our community for many years and has participated in a countless number of organizations such as the Chamber of Commerce, Library Board, , Community Policing, the Legion and Resource Centre Board to name a few. For those who did not know Bill and his wife Gail were the publishers of the old Mirror newsletter and were instrumental in helping Liz and Bill Johnston startup the Apsley Voice. During this event several emotional speeches took place to thank Bill for his community involvement and for being a friend. Jim Dudley read two letters showing appreciation to Bill for his community spirit. The first one was from Barry Devolin MP and the second letter came from Prime Minister Stephen Harper. I have had the honour of working with Bill on many projects and I have always been amazed by the calmness of which he approaches everything. His leadership, logic and ability to cut to the fact of the matter was instrumental in getting things done. I for one believe it is important to thank and show appreciation to someone for the good they have done while you can and this event was a great way to do it.
Bill’s health has been deteriorating and the prognosis is not good. Bill you have been a mentor and great friend, Dianne and I will always hold you close to our hearts. You and Gail will always be in our prayers. Be well my friend. |
