Note from former Councillor Cathy Kleinwort
Hi Liz & Bill, Congratulations on receiving the Canadian Legion National Media Award recognizing both of your outstanding support since you got the Voice off the ground. It was good to see the "Apsley Voice" pick up and run with it, when the Chamber did not print their paper. Due to the hard work of Bill & yourself you made it work and many people & groups benefited from it. You both look extremely well and I hope enjoying good health. Gunter & I are both well and still love living seaside. We are off to Hamilton in September to see our grandson Kees and then on to Oregon for Karen & Jerry's wedding on Oct. 6th. Waiting on my copy of "Up the Burleigh Road & beyond the Boulders" by Mary & Doug. Nice to see Dr. Wag, receive the Good Samaritan Award. Keep well & hello to all Cathy K Check out our "Estuary" wetland -. slideshow - I took 6 of the pictures, this is a very well known "birder" area. http://www.bayroberts.com/estuary.html 'Some Thing' for Women of all Ages by Catherine Gourdier My husband and I recently purchased a wonderful home in Apsley and we absolutely love it here! Though we enjoy swimming , our paddle boat and cocktails on the dock, we do make our way to the local video store at least once a week. I find it more and more difficult to find a film that just tells a story, without all the special effects, computer generated graphics, stunts and extreme violence. A couple of years ago I read a little book entitled, Some Things That Stay, by Sarah Willis. I enjoyed it so much I wanted to make it into a movie. It seems the NEW YORK TIMES also liked it as it was on their 100 Notable Books of the Year list of 2003. I contacted the author and quickly optioned the book. I went on to writing the screenplay and producing the film. However, without the help of my husband, Don Carmody, my little dream may never have come to fruition. This film is especially made for mothers and daughters. I devoted the film to my mother, Neta, 76, as she was a constant support to me throughout the entire three year process. I have donated a DVD copy of my little film to Mike at TAKE TWO VIDEO across from the IGA. It is a small thank you to this lovely community. |
Superheroes Visit Apsley
by Christine Everett This year’s theme to the Library Reading Program was Superhero’s. We did tones of things such as make our own superhero capes, saved Mike Jackson and Matt Burden from the evil clutches of Professor No Good and Dr. Slightly-Less-Evil, met some very important every day heroes like Firefighters Moore and Currie, as well as Sparky, and we learned about the local history of saw milling. One thing that we did differently this year is that we produced a newspaper about all the weeks of the program. We handed it out on Wednesday, August 16th when Peter Meenie performed a magic show for the kids at the Banquet Hall in Apsley. The kids loved the newspaper as well as the magic show. The newspaper is available for viewing at the Library. Over all, the summer was a super fun time! The kids and staff at the Apsley Library are going to miss Pat greatly as she moves onto her new job in Ennismore.

group on lifesaving equipment.
A fun group of children and youth attended the reading program and they are pictured above. Everyone who attended the reading program enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Pictured with the participants are the hard working Library & Resource Centre Staff and volunteers who made this program possible. |
