Each summer, on the Civic Long
Weekend, the Jack’s Lake Association hosts and sponsors their Annual
Regatta. Saturday provided good wind for the sailing races and Sunday was
a sunny day with a refreshing breeze and about 600 people attended with
over 450 participating in the events. This year, along with the usual
runs, swim and canoe races, egg toss and tugs of war, a “Kids 1.5 km Run”
was added. Over 350 medals-gold, silver and bronze were presented
throughout the 2-day event.
The Bake Table as well as the
Books and Games table were popular again this year as well as the Lion's
Food Booth. Another new feature this year was a fish demonstration. The
aim was to show Lakers how to fillet and cook small fish and to provide a
taste to this entire sumptuous treat. Fishers are encouraged to keep small
fish such as crappie, rock bass and small and largemouth bass when caught
to help the balance with the pickerel/walleye fishery in the Lake.

On August 4th, Chandos
cottages arrived early at Lakeview Cottages and Marina for the annual
regatta and a day of family fun. Regatta chair, Chris Popovich, and
co-chairs, Kailey Auger and Alex Forani, along with a strong contingent of
enthusiastic volunteers, ran another flawless regatta. On land, the
highlights included a horseshoe tournament, running and sack races and a
casting contest. At the water’s edge, there were swimming races for those
6 and under, to 30 and over, followed by tube and canoe races. Most
enjoyable were the 5 person canoe races, which frequently resulted in a
very wet ending - with participants fully submerged.
