A pictographic
storytelling art program has been underway at the Apsley Public School
grades 4-8, since January of this year.
In November of 2005, Hazel
Lambe, artist, submitted application to the Ontario Arts Council, “Artists
In Education: Program for Individuals” to deliver her visual art program
to the Apsley students. In August 2006 the Ontario Arts Council approved
artist funding in the amount of $6300.00 for project delivery.
Implementation of the art program between the Artist and School was
finalized in 2007.
This art program engages
learners in a new art form that combines both realism and pictographs.
Learners select a main subject and following creative thinking exercises,
they complete a short story, design symbols to communicate their story
through visual art, and successfully paint their final artwork. Symbolic
images are illustrated by incorporating knowledge, imagination, drawings,
and paintings.
The students will display
their artwork at an Open Exhibition to be held at the Apsley Public School
on Thursday, June 14, 2007 starting at 6:30 p.m.
Participating Artists:
