Once again, the
Apsley Lions will be holding their Giant Indoor Flea Market at the
Apsley Arena. This will be their eighteenth year to sponsor the
Market. It has been very successful, thanks to local support from
our residents and cottagers. It will be held on Saturday, July 14
and the doors will open at 8:30 AM. The special auction will take
place at 11:00 AM and the silent auction, held in the main hall,
will begin at 8:30AM.
There are always
great items, as well as gifts for many occasions, to be seen and
purchased among the many artisans and craftspeople who display
their goods at the Market. Be sure to check out their tables in
both the arena area and the main hall.
The Market
features lots of household goods, toys, sports equipment, tools,
furniture, tons of books for those lazy days and much more.
When you clean out
those cupboards, please try to re-cycle your unwanted items to the
Lions. They need only good, clean saleable goods that will sell
because the proceeds are needed for community projects and to
assist local groups. They do not re-cycle clothing, mattresses,
magazines or items you would consider “Junk”. Enjoy lunch at the
Lions booth or in the main hall.
Vendor tables are
available, for information contact Lion Joan at 656-3984 or Lion
Sally at 656-4547.
Free pick-up of
goods is available by calling Lion Wayne @ 656-3498, Lion Norris @
656-8760, Lion Fred @656-3220 or Lion Gil @ 656-2930.

People wonder why
I talk about the family so much. It is because there are so many
families that have so many problems and come to me for help. I can
give direction but I can’t fix anyone’s life. People have to
recognize problems, then begin to change. Up until a couple of
years ago, I used to work in my shop on two or three cars or bikes
a week working nights on top of my job. I'd hardly ever enter the
house 'cause I would be painting until three or four in the
morning. Then, I'd leave for work early and if anybody needed
anything they would come as soon as I was back home from work and
then I would be busy working for them. My family hardly knew me
because on top of this, I would go and speak in different places
on weekends or during my vacation time. Finally one day I told my
kids that I was taking a week off and I asked them what they would
like to do for a holiday...they just said that they wanted to
spend the whole time just being with me, they didn’t care where,
they just wanted time with Daddy!
Dad, be a man,
look after your kids, take time with them, take them out for ice
cream. Take time in the shop with your kids and teach them how to
work all the tools. Don't push them away because they'll cause
your job to take longer or maybe even because you’ll have to do it
again. If you will take time with them when they are young they'll
want to be around you when they get older too.
I always just took
my wife for granted that she was just something to use when I
wanted something. Thank God I've learned a lot of stuff in the
last fifteen years! When I was first married, my wife was the girl
I slept with, the one that cooked for me, that raised my children
and fed the dogs. When I did get home I'd find something to
complain about. She did get ugly with me as well. Then I'd wonder
why at nighttime she didn't want to be intimate with me? Shocker!
I'm telling you
all about this, because I know where people live. People are not
perfect, if you are ever to become a success in life you will have
to make changes. I have made the choice to make changes. One thing
that I have learned, from asking many older people about what they
would have done differently if they had life to live over again
would be that they would spend more time with the people that
really matter...their family. I started doing that with my wife. I
bring her flowers (not too regularly), but you would be amazed at
what that will do! The first time I picked the flowers out of
somebody's garden. That little act of thoughtfulness, going out of
my way to let her know that I loved her made all the difference in
the world. Instead of me chasing her, she started chasing me and
when she caught me (it didn't take very long) we had the best time
that we had had in a long time. Once I told her that I loved her
on a regular basis, our marriage turned from just going, to being
great! I still tell her when I don't like something, but there is
a lot to be said about how you say things!! Make the choice today
to walk in love with your family and spouse and God will help you
if you’ll ask Him!
