"Arthur" is in the Village

A visitor has come to town, name’s Arthur so they say
He’s made himself at home it seems, helped himself to where to stay,
So many folks have welcomed him, let him make his bitter point
He’ll take his ease from nose to knees; he’ll live in any joint

When Arthur arrives forget your hives, your heel spurs and your gout

There’s no visitor so vulgar, so loud with painful shout

An ankle here, a shoulder there, or a spot twixt spine and hip

His perverse choice of residence can cause our brains to flip

And if you have temerity to ignore the pains he brings

The place he chose will swell and bloat with no easing of the sting

You can’t perform the work and games that made your life so sweet

The pain and swelling make it hard to walk across the street

The Arthur bloke’s for sure no joke as mis’ry he delivers

We’re kept from medication now, it’s too hard on our livers

Oh what we’d give what soul we’d sell for an anti- flammatory

But with no pain what’s there to gain for the Bard who tells this story?

It’s said these so-called Golden Years were times meant to delight us

But no one told us that we’d face this devil Arthur Itis,

From neck to toe and points between, his presence is a curse

The only consolation is “It probably could be worse”

We could be hit with ills more great than Arthur can devise

We still have use of mind and tongue and see wonders with (weaker) eyes

But yet we think this time of life would be nicer just the same,

If that ever-aching ailment, Arthur Itis never came.

(Why is it men, that the one place we’d enjoy to have stiffen and swell, Arthur leaves alone?)

“OUR OKLAHOMA DAWN”

Born March 16, 1976. At rest June 13, 2007

MY BELOVED DAWN…

“OUR OKLAHOMA DAWN”. BORN MARCH 16, 1976. AT REST JUNE 13, 2007 APPROXIMATELY 7 AM. HERE AT 9561 HWY 28 IN THE VILLAGE OF APSLEY, AT THE AGE OF 31 YEARS 3 MONTHS. “DAWN” CAME TO US IN MAY 1990. SHE WAS MY FIRST HORSE. SHE BECAME SISTER TO “MISTY”, MY SON KEVIN’S HORSE AND IN JUNE OF 1990 WE PURCHASEDHER A BROTHER “BENTLEY”. THEY HAD SEVENTEEN WONDERFUL YEARS TOGETHER. TOTALLY PAMPERED AND SPOILED. “DAWN” WAS THE BEST HORSE EVER. COMPLETELY TRUSTWORTHY AND BOMBPROOF. WHEN SHE FIRST CAME TO ME SHE HAD STEPPED ON A NAIL. FOR 3 WEEEKS I HAD TO CLEAN AND PACK THE PUNCTURE SITE. A TRULY INCREDABLE BOND HAD BEEN CREATED. I COULD SIT UPON HER AND CUT TREE LIMBS HANGING OVER THE TRAILS AND SHE WOULD NOT BUDGE . SHE LOVED THE LITTLE CHILDREN. WHEN MY SONS KEVIN AND DANNY AND I WOULD RIDE OUR HORSES IN THE APSLEY PARADE, THE KIDS JUST LOVED TO COME AND PET THEM.

DAWN WILL BE SO SADLY MISSED.. MY BELOVED FRIEND AND COMPANION.

MY BELOVED DAWN

MAY YOU NOW FLY LIKE THE WIND, YOUR SPIRIT IS FREE.

MEANDER THROUGH GREEN PASTURES,

AND EAT FROM THE APPLE TREES.

DRINK FROM THE CLEAR WATER,

I LIFT UP YOUR SPIRIT AND SET YOU FREE

MY WONDERFUL TRUSTED COMPANION ...

HOW I SHALL TRULY MISS THEE.
