Recognition of Distinction

We are thrilled and proud to report that longtime Child Witness Centre staff member JoAnne Hughes recently received a Victim Services Award of Distinction. The awards are a 'first' in Ontario, having been established in December 2006 by Attorney General Michael Bryant to recognize the dedication and creativity of victim services professionals and volunteers.

Jo-Anne was honoured in a ceremony at Queen's Park on April 26 for her outstanding service to victims of crime. The Attorney General described Jo-Anne as co-founder and current Program Co-ordinator for support and court preparation services provided by the Child Witness Centre serving Waterloo Region & Wellington County; as a person who has devoted her career to child victims; and as having designed and developed the child witness program, which is today viewed as unique and vital by organizations in the justice system and social service agencies across Ontario.

Editor’s note– As JoAnne’s mother in law I must say she makes us proud. ‘Way to Go Jo’

Letter from Bill Dulmage

Gail & I are pretty well settled here in Peterborough although the place is still messy. All of the boxes that came into the apartment have been unpacked and the stuff put away but an awful lot of boxes went to the storage locker in the basement. We are bringing these up one or two at a time and unpacking and dealing with the stuff inside. It is a slow process.

Life with dialysis goes on - at least the drive to the hospital at 7:00 am is a lot shorter. We are in a very nice apartment building. It is quiet and all of the tenants are nice and friendly.

Pike

by Lukan Tucker

I swim through the weeds till dark. At dark I catch a small fish in the shallow water. No one can see me through the weeds with my camouflage. I know this for a fact. People have a passion for pike. My own weakness is bigger fish.

The Pike that got away

This beauty was almost caught off the dock. Alas the fisher had no net.
