Public Meeting Jack’s Lake Future Sunday, July 29 |
|
Hi, neighbour! We really need to hear and record your views on some matters vital to our whole community. The Jack’s Lake Cottagers’ Association invites you to a public forum on the draft Lake Plan for Jack’s Lake. This plan is ultimately intended to guide local municipal governments in their future planning and deliberations, in order to keep the interests of Jack’s Lake and its adjacent dependent community in mind when local laws and planning changes are being considered. It will also help us to prioritize projects to protect the health of the lake and its watershed. Where and when: Sunday, July 29, 2007, 1:00 p.m., at the Apsley Community Centre Your input into the management of Jack’s Lake and its watershed is needed so that we can propose recommendations that reflect consensus of this lakeside community on key issues and concerns. After July 12 you can view the draft Lake Plan at www.cpresults.com/JLCA.htm |

Public School: I advised you in the last newsletter that the new Public School in Apsley would commence construction this Spring. Although the school is a reality, the start date will be set back and construction will not begin until the Spring of '08. Upon the Ministry of Education’s approval, the new school will now house a full size gymnasium with stage, the new North Kawartha Library and a Day Care. This means that the Township will partner with the School Board and the gym will be available for many venues: sports, weddings, summer theatre etc. in the evenings, week-ends and during the summer months. The Library will be larger and will have a wider selection of books and twice as many high speed computers which will eliminate the line ups experienced at many times especially during the summer months, and the day care will be available for working families.
Fire Dept: The Township is in the process of purchasing the Boyer Car Lot on Hwy. 28 to utilize as a Fire Station. North Kawartha Council and Fire Dept wish to thank Mike Boyer for his generous donation of $90,000 below the appraised value. We want to thank Mike for all the years he carried on business in North Kawartha, we wish he was still here, and for his deep interest in the community as well as the cottage. The building will require very little work to make it a functional fire hall. This means that we will be closing the current fire hall beside the Apsley Community Centre. Thanks again from all of us to Mike Boyer for his generous support.
Official Plan: The official plan has been in the planning stage for 6 years and the Open House is at the North Kawartha Council Chamber on June. 20 from 4pm until 7pm and a Public Hearing will be held on 28th of June at the County Court House in Peterborough at 7 p.m. We are hoping to have the plan in effect before the end of 2007.
Broadband: In the Provincial budget there was a commitment of ten million dollars for rural broadband. Applications have been released and the Township in conjunction with the County are working on a joint application to expand service in North Kawartha and the County of Peterborough. We will keep you informed.
Strategic Plan: Council is working on how we would like to see the Township grow in the coming years, and are hoping to have a comprehensive plan in place by the fall of 2007. We will keep you updated.
Next 4 Years: Your Council is committed to moving our Township forward in the next 4 years and will be looking for opportunities for economic development. We will continue to apply for Grants and Transfer payments to keep improving our infrastructure and service to you.
Your New Council Members are: Jim Whelan, Reeve: Barry Rand, Deputy Reeve: Arnie Brown, Councillor at Large: alcouncillor@northkawartha.on.ca Carolyn Amyotte, Councillor Burleigh/Anstruther bacouncillor@northkawartha.on.ca Dan Boyd, Councillor Chandos: ccouncillor@northkawartha.on.ca

It's that time of year again, and we would like to remind our good people to be sure to attend our great JULY 1ST parade on Sunday @ 2 P.M. We will once again have a DONATION JAR at Hunters store, and once again we will have our volunteers in the parade and they will be picking up your food or monetary donations along the route. This past year we have had an even greater demand on our food bank, and even the smallest amount is needed to help us to continue to ease the burden of feeding a family. To All of You, a very sincere THANK YOU.
