Apsley Legion Support Troops Overseas
R. Allen

"Operation Homefires" is a legion tradition of supporting our men and women of the Canadian Forces serving overseas.  In time for this past Christmas, the Apsley Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion raised $300.00 to help put together 2,400 comfort packages to be sent to our troops in Afghanistan.  The packages contained music CD's, books, playing card, sunscreen, and other fun and useful items. Also included were letters from students, MPP Christine Elliot, and Christmas greetings from countless Legionnaires. The program was organized by Whitby, Ajax, and Oshawa area Legions. The goal of the sending the packages was to give the troops a taste of home and remind them that their sacrifices are not being forgotten.
