APSLEY LIONS CLUB

2006 was a very successful
year for the Club, thanks to the continued support the Club has received
from the community. The Christmas
parade was well attended and the beautiful
tree stands as a sign of the spirit that abounds in the North Kawartha.
Watch for information on
upcoming
events such as the
 Valentine
Dinner and Dance that will be held February
10th
at the Apsley
Community Centre. This is a sellout event so
book your tickets through Lion Wayne at 656-3498 or Lion Darlene at
656-2798. Most members can secure tickets for you.
The annual Lions Hockey
Tournament will also be held in February but data is not available at this
time but we will keep you posted.

Where are you going?

Where are you going? This
is a question that I ask myself daily. I found out many years ago that if
people did not know where they were going or if they did not have a
destination they would not know when they would get there! Then, after a
while they loose the fight to keep going and they quit! Some quit their
marriage, others quit their job, and many end their life not knowing or
able to see any hope in their future. Seeing it is the New Year, I know
that many have made new years resolutions and almost as many as have made
them have already broken them. Many times we plan great plans and always
have great intentions but for one reason or another are not able to see
them through. It seems to stand to reason to say then, that it takes more
than just a great idea to finish the course. Let’s take exercise for an
example. We wake up one morning, get out of bed, walk by the mirror, look
at ourselves and say, “I have to exercise more than just getting out of
bed!” Then we go straight to the breakfast table, and eat sugar-coated
cereal and five pieces of toast while drinking a double-double and all the
while, thinking up a strategy one how we can loose this weight. Believe
me it takes more than just a great idea; it takes discipline or in other
words Self-Control! Now, I don’t know very many people who like to
discipline their flesh. There are people that find it easy to do but from
what I have seen, the majority find it hard…but it can be done! It helps
when someone is behind you, coaching you, then there is a greater chance
of finishing the race victoriously rather than doing it on your own. It is
like a team! I have found it frustrating watching a hockey game where one
player is oblivious to the rest of the team. He tries to do it all by
himself and the team ends up loosing just because he would not allow the
others to help him. I see many people that won’t let anyone help because
of their pride; thinking they can do it on their own. Wake up! If it was
not for AA or other people, there would be many that still would have
nothing, many that would still be pushing family, friends or anyone that
tries to help away. Thank God for AA helping so many people that could
not do it on their own, and yet with a friend behind them were able to do
it. I thank God that He sent Jesus to be our helper. Help He can and help
He will, when no one else can. The Bible says, “Where does our help come
from? Our help comes from the LORD, the maker of heaven and earth.”
Listen, if he can make heaven and earth he can help you. Call on him for
help! The Bible says whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be
saved… saved from what? Well first of all eternal death, but the list
goes on from there, insecurities, anything that has you bound, whether
that’s anger or any addiction. Saved from trouble in your family and any
unrest you might be experiencing. God can take your life and begin to
rebuild it again so you can finish life’s race, knowing at all times where
you are going!
