Toy Drive

The first annual NKFD toy drive was a hugh success. Over $1,000 was raised and enough toys donated to give approximately 50 children a few gifts each. The North Kawartha Fire Department wants to thank everyone that made and collected donations to help make a child's Christmas a happy one.

Thin Ice

If you spot an animal through the ice - DO NOT try to save it. Call 911. The FD is equipped to handle these types of emergencies. In most cases where a good Samaritan tries to make a water/ice entry to assist an animal, the animal gets out on their own and the good Samaritan loses their life. Plus endongers others in the process of trying to save the good Samaritan.

Chimneys

With the weather being mild this winter wood stove heating systems are at a higher risk of a chimney fire occurring. Being so mild the wood stoves get dampened down frequently creating a lot of creosote in the chimney. If a chimney fire occurs; shut the damper down, throw a small glass of water on the fire in the stove and close the door. The steam will extinguish the fire in the chimney. Call 911. After a chimney fire your chimney must be inspected by a WETT  certified inspector for damage from the extreme heat of the chimney fire. Have your chimney inspected annually and cleaned frequently.

Smoke Alarms

Test your smoke alarms regularly. It's the law to have one on every level of your home and it may save your life!
