Blackfly Summer Theatre Company in association with the Town of North Kawartha is thrilled to announce that we will be offering two shows this summer. Thanks to tremendous audience response and extremely supportive sponsors the company has expanded its theatre fare to two great plays this season. Tickets for this season’s shows will be available on June 30 at Apsley’s Garden and Cottage Shoppe on Hwy. 28 in Apsley, Stephen and McDonalds Shell Station in downtown Apsley and Harvest Moon Wholefoods in Bancroft. Tickets are only $15 each and will also be available at the door. The first show to hit the stage at the Apsley Community Centre Theatre will be Seven Stories, a comedy by Canadian playwright and Governor General’s Award winner, Morris Panych. This show will run Wednesdays to Saturday for three weeks from July 25 to August 11. This is a fast-paced, sophisticated and hilarious play which won six Jessie Awards in 1990 including Outstanding Original Play. The second show will be Painting Churches, a comic-drama by Tina Howe, who is a Tony and Obie Award winning playwright. Painting Churches is about a certain “coming of age” of a remarkable couple, their relationship with each other and their daughter, who is an emerging artist in New York City. This show will run Wednesdays to Saturdays from August 22 until September 1. We hope you can join us for some good laughs this season. “We’ve been really excited about introducing two plays to our season and now we’re set to “go for it” says Pippa Strachan and Daniel Boileau, Blackfly’s co-producers. “Our generous sponsors have made it possible for Blackfly to launch two shows for its fourth season in Apsley” they added. “That combined with growing audiences demonstrates that Blackfly is filling a need for good, live entertainment during the summer months when locals and cottagers alike look for family activities that are close by and affordable”.
