Liberal Elite Not Finished with Leadership Issue

The recent Liberal convention was great theater and to those of us who read the nuances of Shakespearean drama. Typically, it had an undercurrent of self-serving cynicism and irony.

It is said that some people are underestimated because they deserve to be.

That said, Stephane Dion was originally underestimated by the Liberal establishment and certainly by the other candidates in the Liberal leadership race. But, was this accidental or intentionally managed?

They wouldn't. Or, would they?

Would the Liberal hierarchy, knowing that they have not yet rebuilt their philosophy or grasped a real vision of what to offer the country; would they allow the elevation of yet another Quebec-based leader unless they knew that winning the next election was unlikely?

Are they so cynical that they would engineer the movement by both legitimate and 'forlorn hope' candidates to move, not to Bob Rea, Kennedy or Michael Ignatieff, but to the one candidate they are willing to sacrifice in the next general vote?

Liberal leaders who do not win an election are cast aside. The logic could be to put Dion's head on Stephen Harper's chopping block, and when/if the next election fails to produce a Liberal victory, another convention will allow the ascension of a new leader from outside Quebec.

It seems certain that being denied the keys to the kingdom of Liberal heaven, Ignatieff will eventually take his act back to the USA and the academic halls of ivy. Thus, two nuisances: An ambitious Quebecer and an over-cerebral, foot-in-mouth arriviste will be put out to pasture and the search for power can proceed with a leader from somewhere other than Quebec who will owe the Liberal establishment --- Big Time. Enter Frank McKenna. Bob Rae and others to warm the throne for Justin Trudeau.

Stay tuned. What we saw a week ago Friday and Saturday was not the cast-in-stone decision of the Liberal powerhouse. We heard only the Overture that begins the leadership opera.

The Liberal Fat Lady has not yet sung.

P.S. "Our Marlene White for Liberal candidate in N. Kawartha".

Marlene White should wait in the weeds until Harper has given us enough negativity to hang him with.

Apsley Heart

Since moving to the area to open "B'Abs" not a day has gone by that I have not been touched by this community. From greetings in the grocery store to offers of accommodation on stormy nights, this crazy part of the world has heart. The community events are entertaining, the views are spectacular and there is more laughter in Apsley than anywhere I have ever been in my life. Both my partner Dan and I were scared about making such a big move but the fear was quickly overshadowed by a great sense of fun. Please accept our huge thanks for welcoming us home. Apsley certainly does have heart. Apsley is awesome!

Cheers,
Barbara *"B'Abs"* Shaw

To the Principal, Teachers and Students
of Apsley School

I would like a few moments of your time and express my gratitude to all of you people, for the interest shown in what the Legion Branch 381, is all about. I remember when the staff introduced the student's to the Poppy envelopes and how the response went over so well. Now I see them coming to the cenotaph every November to honor our Vet's. The children, I must say, are well mannered and polite and show such an interest of the things around them. I also must say, when I have had the pleasure judging their speeches or carrying a flag in the colour guard for these event's at the school, I am proud of what I see. The principal and Staff should also be proud of the job they are doing with the children in our community. Being President and now Past President I think I can speak for all the legion members...
WE ARE PROUD OF ALL OF YOU.
