Infrastructure Projects: Health Centre: The new North Kawartha Health Centre Renovations are now complete. Dr. Rayes and Nurse Practitioner Jeanne Brown are seeing more patients and have new state of the art equipment. Council thanks Cal Taillifer and the Capital Campaign Committee for raising the funds needed to complete the new building. Dr. Rayes is in the process of rostering patients; if you have not received your form please contact the Health Centre. The multi purpose room is now being set up for medical Specialists and two have already been in Apsley and advised us of their needs. For medical discussion groups to access the room please call Shannon Hunter 656-4445 ext. 36
Ambulance Building: The Ambulance building is now completed on the Health Centre property, and the paramedics moved into their new quarters in January. This new building was funded by the Ontario Government in partnership with the City and County of Peterborough. Watch for the opening and come and tour the new base. Municipal Office: The new Municipal Office is also finished and the open house was well attended. It is a very functional, bright building that will serve our needs for many years to come. This building was funded from the new Partnership money from the Ontario Government. Public School: The new Public School in Apsley will commence construction this Spring. Council wishes to thank Helen Osborne and the Apsley Public School Renewal Committee who have put so much time and effort into this project. It is now a reality. Your Council is inconsultation with the School Board to have a full size gymnasium and also to enlarge the library so that the North Kawartha Library can be part of the new building. This means that the Township will partnership with the School Board and the gym will be available for many venues: sports, weddings, summer theatre etc. in the evenings, week-ends and during the summer months. The Library will be larger and will have a wider selection of books and twice as many high speed computers which will eliminate the line ups experienced at many times especially during the summer months. Assessment You will notice that your Assessment will not increase this year or next year (unless you have renovated or built) as part of the moratorium ordered by the Ontario Government. Council will continue to work with many organizations to lobby the Ontario Government to revamp the Current Value Assessment (CVA) to make it fair and equitable. Council is also working with the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) to get more sustainable funding for all of the downloaded services that are on the property tax bill in Ontario including Land Ambulance, Social Services and Subsidized Housing. Next 4 Years Your Council is committed to moving our Township forward in the next 4 years and will be looking for opportunities for economic development. We will continue to apply for Grants and Transfer payments to keep improving our infrastructure and service to you.
