Spring in the Air

Spring at last, Spring at last,

Thank God Almighty, Spring at last

The sap is running see the lake ice melt

The trees show buds, sun’s warmth is felt

Though winter was quite late in coming

The cold and snow was finger-numbing

We felt the blast of Celsius minuses

That froze our ears and clogged our sinuses

But all that is but memory now

With Spring’s debut each twig and bough

Shows life anew ‘cross field and cricks

As birdsongs serenade new chicks

And spawning fish show golden eyes

To those who seek the walleye prize

While gradually the boats appear

To tow the year’s first water skier

What light through yonder window breaks

T’is the sun and it heralds hoes and rakes

And topsoil brought by gardener’s trucks

Hail Spring, Hail Summer,  old Winter sucks.

The Bard apologizes

...for not having a poem in the February issue.  I was enjoying my recovery from a total knee replacement at the Peterborough Regional Health Center.  When I left the hospital Helen and I stayed two weeks in the Empress Gardens, Peterborough, in one of their “respite” suites.  This was a good decision forced on us my by my children who feared that I faced peril by going straight back to Jacks Lake.  What a treat.  Two weeks of good food, daily therapy, all the services and terrific surroundings.  The healing process was no doubt accelerated.  And, the cost was not a burden. Oh yes, I limped in and in 14 days, strode boldly out.

Apsley Badminton Club

I am very happy to announce we now have a badminton club in Apsley. After trying for three years the school board are able to let us use their premises. We play in the school gym on Tues. 6.30 to 8.30, PM. This night is for the adults. A charge of $2.00 an evening gives you the chance of lots of fun and exercise. All you need are running shoes, if you have a racquet bring it along. For more info call Helen Richardson: 656-1585
