Peterborough County O.P.P.
were called b Chad TUCKER ( age 21)of Lean Dr. North Kawartha Twp. is charged with: Failure to report a Collision. Ice safety at this time of the year is extremely important. "Know before you go and when in doubt DON'T." Check with area resorts and bait shops as well as snowmobile clubs and dealers to get an understanding of the state of the ice in the area you plan to use. Remember that there can be many thicknesses of ice on the same lake. Running or moving water can undercut the thickness of the ice. A rule of thumb for Ice Travel has been established by the Ontario Snowmobile Safety Committee. less than 3" ( 7cm ) of ice - Stay Off 4" ( 10cm) of ice - Ice Fishing, Walking, Cross Country Skiing 5" ( 12cm) of ice - One snowmobile or A.T.V. 8"-12" (20-30 cm) of ice - One vehicle - car or small pick-up. 12"-15" (30-38 cm) of ice - One vehicle - medium truck.

Peterborough County O.P.P.
responded to the report of a missing 89 year old North Kawartha Twp man on
Saturday night ( 10 February 2007). Police were called at approx. 8:00
p.m. when it was reported that 89 year old Austin WEASE had not returned
to his residence. He was last known to have been in a nearby sugar bush
and was operating a tractor. Investigation was initiated and with the
assistance of family and neighbours, Mr. Wease was located. Unfortunately
the tractor he was operating rolled into a 2 metre deep ditch on Glen Alda
Rd. As the tractor rolled over, it pinned him underneath it. Members of
the North Kawartha Fire Department and Ambulance Service arrived quickly
and were able to treat Mr. Wease at the scene. Wease was subsequently
transported to Bancroft Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life
threatening injuries. (multiple broken bones.) |
