“Links for Literacy”
Golf Classic

For the second year in a row the “Links for Literacy” trophy “Contrite Charlie” was presented to the Boyer family; Wendy, Michael, Ryan and Brandon.  The Third Annual Golf Classic, held on July 23rd at the truly marvelous Marvel Rapids Golf Course, was once again a wonderful success, attracting 56 golfers and raising over $4000.00 for the North Kawartha Public Library and Lifelong Learning Centre.  Despite their recent relocation to Lindsay, Boyer Chevrolet (Lindsay) Ltd. still generously sponsored the tournament by providing a 2005 Chevrolet Impala should any golfer get a hole-in-one on the 9th hole.

That feat was not accomplished but many other prizes were awarded to deserving golfers.  Second place were Ron McGeachie, Andre Poulin, Trent Pringle, and Dan Balsom, third place went to Lannie Reynolds, Tim Harper and Rocky Pederson.  Lynn and Roger Challinor and John and Sylvia
Worthington came fourth.

The putting contest was once again a challenge, but Trevor Kaschak managed to put one in the hole.  Likewise the greens were elusive with only a few people even qualifying for the closest to the pin contest.  Howard Noble landed closest on #4 and Lee Hoare found the 9th green.  Sally Rand and Michael Boyer won the longest drive contests.

Thank you to all the golfers for their support and congratulations to the winners.  Gratitude is also in order for all the sponsors on the adjacent list.  A big thank you to the Osbornes and all the staff of Marvel Rapids Golf Course for their continuing support, to the North Kawartha Youth Committee and all the volunteers for their Saturday afternoon.

Aside from a worrying half hour of foreboding clouds it was a perfect day and made one proud to be a member of such a generous community.  See you on the links!
