on Chandos Lake in May 86 and started building that year. He retired to
Chandos Lake in Jan.98.He was an active member of the A.B.C. Seniors During his time as President, Jan. 2000 to Mar.02, he helped in fund raising, bus trips; exercise classes, a free BBQ, free dinners and a 3 to 4 day trips. Membership during Bob's Presidency increased from 63 to 130 members. On June 14th 02 Bob was presented an award for Volunteerism from the County of Peterborough. A very well deserved award Bob was also quite active in the Chandos Lake Glen Aida Diners' Club. He was also a member of Zone 42 of The United Senior Citizens Club of Ontario and in 2003 was elected President and became a Field Representative in 2005. For the past 8 years Bob has been a very active volunteer at Apsley Community Care helping with carpentry work, fund raising, driving Seniors to their Clubs, Doctor's appointments and shopping. Military and Legion activities took up a large part of Bob's life. On completion of his Army Military Service he joined the Royal Canadian Legion in Toronto in 1979 and transferred to the Apsley Legion in 1997. He was very active on the Legion Executive; Sgt. at Arms Colour Guard; Poppy Fund Chairman; Honours, Awards, Seniors, Service Officer; First and Second Vice-President. Bob had provided me with most of this information just a few weeks ago for his Legion Life Membership Application. He will be missed by all and is survived by his beloved wife, Norma and son David. The Annual Regatta Returns for Chandos Lake
Cottagers
The Chandos Lake Regatta re-emerged after being cancelled in 2004, due to insurance difficulties, with a number of new and exciting events. A new and very popular water race was the 2-person tube race (photo above). Racers, allowed to only use their hands and arms to propel themselves, moved precariously over the water, enjoying every splash and bump-with the main challenge being to stay on the tube.
Canoe racing, with and without a paddle, was enormously popular, even though only a few survived above water in the 5-person canoe race. Everyone laughed all the way to the finish line.
