Jack’s Lake Cottages Association
2004 Regatta A Huge Success

O
n July 31st and August 1st the ‘Jack’s Lake Cottages Association’ held their 61st annual regatta.   The event that started in 1943 is held by the Jack’s Lake Cottages Association as their main fun raising and community event.  Over 255 beautifully crafted medals (gold, silver and bronze) are up for grabs during the two day event that covers 9 water and dry land events with competitors from all age groups.  Some events like the 3 legged race and the swimming events have as many as 8 different age categories for girls and boys alike starting at 5yrs of age and under, in fact at  this years' regatta our youngest competitor in the swimming event was 3 year old Allison Becker of Peterbourgh Ontario (daughter of Martha and Jason  and grand daughter of Eileen and Doug Moulton)!  Although Alison was just shy of the podium it has become Regatta custom to award the youngest competitor in the Regatta with a Gold Medal!  Congratulations Alison, we know this will be the first of many Regatta medals to add to your trophy case!

In addition to the events there is also a White Elephant and Bake Sale sponsored by the Association as well as an Information and Membership Booth where cottagers can find helpful information about the Cottagers Association and the various activities and programs in which they participate and represent our community in the local (Township) and provincial levels.   The Apsley Lions Club was once again on hand to provide a delicious assortment of BBQ fair and refreshment to all the athletes and their supporters with some 400+ burgers and 300+ hotdogs served.  The Lions Club does a fantastic job each year in supporting the Regatta and of course our community at large! Thank you Lions’ Club!

The Regatta plays a very important role in the community spirit on the lake.  It is a special weekend for Jack Lake Cottagers families’ and friends alike.  Many thanks go out to the many volunteers who are enlisted prior to and in many cases during the events!  Your willingness to participate and your judging expertise has once again resulted in another extremely successful Regatta Weekend on Jack Lake.

Special thankyous are also in order for The Forest Glen Marina (Jan and Terry Halcovitch) and the Anchorage Marina (Lisa and Joe Dunkerley) who allow us to host the events on the respective properties.

In closing I would like to give a special acknowledgement to our Jack Lake Cottagers Association and its’ Executive for hosting such a great community event!

    See you next year!
