Picture of Alanna provided by F. Roxborough

My granddaughter Alanna Robitaille dreamt of swimming with dolphins, after watching the Free Willy movie. She learned everything she could about killer whales and dolphins and the 11 year old can recite many facts about them both.

It is remarkable because she can’t even tell you how old she is, as my granddaughter was born with Cerebral Palsy. Thanks to the ‘Sunshine Walk for Children’s Dreams’, Alanna’s dream came true in early May.

The S.W.C.D. paid for the Robitaille familes  three children, to go to the southern Florida Keys, so Alanna could frolic in the waves with her buddies (the dolphins) at the Hawk’s Key Beach Resort. This S.W.C.D paid for everything, the hotel, the rental car, the airfare, and even the spending money. It made for a really relaxing time for the whole family.

The S.W.C.D  makes dreams come true for children challenged by severe physical disabilities or life threatening illnesses.

S.W.C.D began its work in London, Ont. In 1987, the dream of a police officer who had lost his son to muscular dystrophy and who wanted to help other kids like his.

The S.W.C.D is also endorsed by the R.C.M.P., Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police and the Canadian Armed Forces, also Radio Shack.

What they do is just awesome.

Florence Roxborough
