Fatal Motor Vehicle Collision

Highway # 28, Township of Douro-Dummer

A two - vehicle, head-on collision has claimed the life of a woman around 1:15 p.m. this afternoon on Highway # 28 north of Highway # 7.Specifically, the collision occurred on a stretch of highway formerly known as Highway # 134, but was recently re-named Highway # 28. A car was travelling south on Highway # 28 between Peterborough County Road # 8 and Division Road in the Township of Douro-Dummer. The car  was behind a southbound pickup truck, white in colour with a black cap. An aluminum ladder fell from the truck and the driver of the car swerved into the northbound lane to avoid striking the ladder. The car was in collision with a northbound passenger van. Three occupants of the passenger van were taken by ambulance to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre. They sustained minor injuries. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. Next - of -kin must be located. The woman does not appear to be a local area resident. Highway # 28 is closed to facilitate the investigation. Motorists on Highway # 28 can expect a minimal delay as traffic is re-routed on County Road # 8, Douro Township Concession 5 and Division Road.

-The collision claimed the life of the lone occupant of a Chrysler car, Donna E. Beattie 51 - years of age of R. R. # 6 Cambridge, Ontario. Mrs. Beattie was returning to Cambridge from her Apsley cottage.

 Jack Lake Boaters Charged
The Peterborough County O.P.P. Marine Unit patrolled Jacks Lake on Wednesday afternoon, July 23 Constable Christopher Foster of the Unit reports that he stopped 16 - vessels during the afternoon and laid six liquor charges against persons found in contravention of the Liquor Licence Act of Ontario. Nearly one in three boaters were charged.
Break & Enters in North Kawartha
  •  Sun. Aug.3rd & Wed.Aug.6th , on hwy 504 a house was entered.. A socket set, a drill bit set, a Makita saw, & a Native Indian watercolour picture were stolen. Then on or about Aug.6th, the garage was entered. Stolen in the 2nd entry was a 2003 red Yamaha all terrain vehicle, a Honda water pump, a Stihl weed eater, an air compressor and a Lincoln Arc welder.
  • On or about Jul.3rd & Aug.1st on # 504 at Glen Alda a house, trailer & barn were entered. Nothing appears stolen On or about Aug 4th & 5th , a shop next to a residence on Jack's Lake Road was entered. A stereo system consisting of a CD/Dual Cassette player  AM/FM radio and speakers was stolen.
  • On or about July 22nd to 31st , a shed was entered at a property located on Highway # 28 in North Kawartha. A Quantum lawn mower and a gas powered Coleman generator were stolen. A $200.00 reward has been offered by the complainant for information leading to an arrest in this particular occurrence.
  • On or about July 1st to 13th , a cottage was entered on Hawks Bay Lane, North Kawartha. A personal flotation device was stolen. It is turquoise in colour. It is labelled ' Stearns Classic Ski '.
  • On or about July 27-28th , a cottage at Fire Route 45A Big Cedar Lake was entered. Food items and binoculars were stolen.

MEDIA RELEASE: Mon Aug 11th 03Ptb O.P.P. & C. P. officials made their way to Kosh Lake Road, north of Blue Mountain Road, near Nephton in the top end of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township. There was a late afternoon report of a six-car [train] derailment. There are no initial reports of injury. The area is remote and traffic interruption does not appear to be a factor.
