in Apsley. Services include: transportation, friendly visiting,
meals on wheels, home help and home maintenance (provided by brokered
workers) the care mobile, personal distress alarm , telephone reassurance
checks and wellness programs.
Over 50 active well trained, enthusiastic and caring volunteers
ensure that services continue to be delivered to help you or a family
member remain independent in your home.
Community Care also offers a New to You store (C.C. Fashions) This
is our major fundraiser. Come in and browse through our excellent
selection at exceptionally low prices.
Drivers Wanted
A lack of personal transportation has left many seniors
in our community |
unable to get out to appointments throughout
the year. Community Care volunteer drivers provide transportation
to registered clients . The demand for this service is increasing
and more volunteers are needed in the Apsley area. Your reliable vehicle
and a few hours of your free time per week or every other week may
seem like a small commitment but can mean so much to a senior. Volunteer
drivers receive nominal reimbursement to cover expenses. Contact Peggy
at 656-4589 for more information on how you can become involved.
NORTH KAWARTHA COTTAGERS HAVE BEEN HAD
By Harold Forbes
N.K. Council consisting of permanent residents, passed Bylaws 2004-46 & 2004-45,
instituting Recycling and Road Side pick up of garbage, for 52 weeks
of the year, starting in July 04, for a three year period. 75 %
of the expense of hundreds of thousands of dollars is to be borne
by the N.K. cottagers. This would not be an injustice if the cottagers
were allowed to use the service, but, the Bylaw disallows it by
law. Cottagers typically go home on Sunday nights. The Bylaw will
not allow anyone to put out recycle or garbage until Monday/ |
Tuesday/ or Wednesday. Excuse me. The
cottagers have to pay for it but can't use the service by law. During
July and August some cottagers were at their cottage for 2 or 3 weeks
and could have used the service. As of Sept 7 and until next summer,
no cottager can use the service. Some justification has been put forth
based on the progressive increase in tonnage picked up during July
and August. Watch what happens starting in September. This is an ill
conceived Bylaw that will only benefit permanent residents. Cottagers
did not have an opportunity to assess the potential of utilization.
This dissatisfaction will not go away. On a different note, Council
has authorized additional expense to the taxpayers. The hiring of
a security service to monitor residents leaving garbage at the gates
of the dumps in the off hours. No one will condone this blatant disregard
for the Bylaws of the township. Now we will see if Council follows
through with the intent of the contract. NK Cottagers are encouraged
to make their pro and con views know to Council. Send Email To: info@northkawartha.on.ca
