Fastened by Pastor John Trotter Have you ever noticed people are up and down like a yo-yo? One minute they are on top of the world and the next minute they are down. This is because most people don’t have anything solid to hang on to. They have no anchor, so when the winds of life hit, they go sailing. I remember a friend of mine when I was younger, had a really nice skidoo-élan. We would ride around on all the small trails surrounding my house and we’d have a blast. One day his skidoo quit, so he started pulling it, and pulling it with no results. Finally he put the boots to it. He kicked the seat. Then he pulled again. Nothing. The more he pulled the madder he got. Before my very eyes, he ripped the windshield off, kicked the hood in and actually destroyed that nice machine. Because of a small problem, he lost all common sense, and it cost him big money. I say small problem, because all that turned out to be wrong was that there was water in the fuel and it had iced up. All it needed was a hair-dryer to the carb for 10 or 15 minutes and it would have been good as new. Instead when this little wee storm hit, (which was really nothing!) he got so consumed by anger that common sense wasn’t even in his reach anymore. I know you would have never done anything like this but you might know someone who has. I know I’ve done stupid things myself, but I soon realized that doing it my own way was really dumb. We can use self-control if we want too. This really bothers me, a guy beats a girl up then gets to court and he says he couldn’t help himself; yeah right! You just put that same guy in a room with a guy twice his size and I’ll bet he can help himself! When I gave my life to Jesus, my whole life changed. I realized what life was really about - People not stuff. Stuff is replaceable. People are not replaceable. You look around, so many people are mad and miserable, and it’s mostly because of money or because they don’t get their own way in life so they throw a tantrum. It does not matter how much you have you will always want more, so in the process enjoy what you have. The only way for you to ever have real peace inside and live life to the fullest is to have Jesus living in you. It does not mean that you won’t have problems; it means that now you are anchored to the One that does not/cannot change. I’m telling you, life is too short. Each one of us will face uncomfortable circumstances in our lives. It’s what we do when those situations arise that determine their outcome. I liken this to a hurricane. Only the things that are fastened down will stay. Only the things anchored to Jesus will survive shipwreck. Maybe you have been up and down with depression, cares or everyday life, or maybe you have not spoken to family members for years because they wronged you. Let it go and get things right, don’t let stuff stop you from enjoying life Get fastened to Jesus. He never changes. He’s always the same. He takes you the way you are. Call on him today.

YOUR
HEALTH... ...YOUR COMMUNITY by Cal Taillefer Well the ice is finally off the lakes and Spring is surely here and so are those pesky little bugs! The tourists and cottagers won't be far behind and won't they be surprised to see our wonderful new Medical Centre? If you haven't been, do drop in and of course meet our nurse practitioner, Jeannie. Well after the winter, I have some catching up to do in regard to kudos for donations. In case you have ever wondered why some are mentioned and others not; it's fairly simple: I try to mention all clubs, organizations, etc. as I believe that group efforts are sometimes more challenging to get together and, I do want to motivate others. In regard to individuals, I only mention really sizeable amounts. However, anyone giving $100 or more will be recognized on the Donor Wall. So, here goes with thanks from the community: The Wednesday Nighters, Storm Racing, Chandos Community Aux., Wilson Park Community Assoc., Chandos Lake Property Owners Assoc., Apsley Pharmacy. In addition, I must share a little story with you: Some time ago I did my pitch to The Legion and they assured me that they would support our project with a probable goal of $1,500. I became aware of their challenges and focus on membership building. Well, recently at their awards ceremonies I was presented with a cheque for $4,400 (an individual member later topped that up to $4,500)!! I think they did it that way just to see the surprised look on my face! Way to go folks. I should also mention, that the Brenden Court Memorial is growing by leaps and bounds. Brenden was a lively young man who grew up spending his summers on Jack Lake. Unfortunately, in the Fall, he lost his life in an accident in Texas. His friends and family have spearheaded a drive for funds to be gifted to the Medical Centre. Good work and very thoughtful. So, at this point, we have collected/pledged $270,000! Not bad, considering that our goal is $350,000 and we have until the end of the Summer to do it. If you have not yet taken an opportunity to write us that cheque, please do so. We want your name on that Donor Wall! Just fill out the form and send it in or drop it off to Judy Everett in the Township Office, or if you need more information or have questions, please feel free to contact me (742-3317 or 656-3782), or of course, Jim Whelan, our Reeve. Now, speaking of the end of our campaign, we are planning a wonderful celebration and although we do not have all of the details yet, we do know that the date is Sunday, August 27. So, keep it open as I know that you will want to join us. Katie Jackson and Caroline Elder are the lead organizers and I am sure that they will have fun times for us. We shall keep you posted. It's great to be back in the swing of things again. Enjoy, and do keep us in your charitable thoughts. Home and Garden Tour ... a late news flash ... ... in aid of the Medical Centre. Saturday June 24. Watch for posters for further details. Speak Up!
