The North Kawartha Public Library
has a new logo!

By Caroline Elder

In March, the Resource Centre, on behalf of the North Kawartha Public Library launched a logo design contest.  Offering three prize levels for children in our community, junior kindergarten to grade eight.  The goal of a new logo is to help promote that the N.K.P.L. has become “friendly, high-tech”.  Patrons can now reserve books on-line, read web-based books, and now book sharing with other libraries will be easier. All thanks to a program called “Mandarin Library Automation.”  The response was overwhelming with 25 entries…we have a lot of budding artists in our community!  We assembled a judging panel of five, and based the judging criteria on three guidelines… most reflective of the library’s new image, most creative, and the best reproduction quality. Even with the guidelines, it was tough to choose just three. In fact, we were only able to narrow it down to four, and thus added an extra prize.

The winners are… Caitlyn Evans, grade 5, winning 1st place and $100.00 cash, John Trotter, age 11, winning 2nd place and $50.00 cash, Kali Tucker winning 3rd place and $25.00 cash, and honourable mention to Kylie Trotter, age 12, winning a $20.00 certificate to Happenstance Books, in Lakefield.

Be sure to visit www.NorthKawarthaLibrary.com to see all of the entries submitted, and shortly you will see Caitlyn’s design on your new library cards, the website and the new library sign.  Congratulations to all of our winners, and special thanks to the judges and all of those who participated. Everyone did a great job!
