ABC Seniors

by Dianne Langille

Members are reminded that June 28th will be our annual BBQ. This luncheon will finalize our regular meetings until after Labour Day. We resume again for dinner, Tues. Sept. 6th at noon. However, for those interested, euchre play will continue throughout July and August. The Euchre Tournament, May 5th, went very well. Nine players from Wilson Park and six Legion members joined our club to make this tournament a nice social event. A lovely lunch was prepared by Helen Parberry.

Winners:
Gold -- Frances Trotter and Eleanor White
Silver -- Doug May and Horst Herbst
Bronze -- Sonny and Eveleen McGillivray
Medals will be presented to the winners on May 27th, 7 P.M., at Applewood Manor in Peterborough. Everyone welcome.

The District Senior Games will be held in Brighton on June 6th. We are working on the preparation of raffle tickets for the Quilt for the Xmas Bazaar. Hopefully, they will be available by the end of June. Please participate by taking a book to buy or sell.

The craft program is progressing well. Eileen Matthias teaches us the preparation and painting of folk art pieces. Marge Bullied and Namie Wilson have offered to show interested members the technique of quilting. A baby quilt has been set up for this purpose. The next craft day is June 2nd, 10 A.M. -1 P.M.

We wish everyone a safe and fun filled summer.

90 Years Young - Happy Birthday Ilse
by Zoe Armstrong
Aisle
On May 8th 2005, Ilse Sprung celebrated her 90th Birthday Party. It was a joyous occasion of laughter, songs and cake. Guests walked and talked but Ilse stayed in her chair, with a huge grin on her face. Nobody wanted this party to end. Unfortunately it had to.

Ron Dunkerley Tribute Fundraiser

by David James

The Ron Dunkerley Tribute fundraiser dance that was held March 12th at the community centre was a great success. Thanks to all of our supporters and sponsors. A total of $2907 was raised with the proceeds going to Jennifer Dunkerley and family, Apsley Minor Hockey and the Apsley Men’s Hockey. Thanks to those who ran the event, the sponsors and to those who attended. Ron always gave to his community and this was an opportunity for his family, friends and community to say thanks.
