At 8:50 P.M. the accused, Gabriel Sydney Pace (male) 18 years who is a ward of the C.A.S. had asked his 20 year old female "case worker" if he could go for a walk. When she refused to let him go for the walk Pace became verbally assertive then threatening and finally threatened her with death. The "case worker" attempted to calm Pace down with no luck. Pace then became assaultive sticking out physically at the "case worker". The situation further deteriorated to the point where a knife was thrown at the "case worker" cutting her. She was then attacked first with a glass then a rock and finally a bookcase was knocked over onto her. The "case worker" was able to break free and attempted to flee the residence but was over powered by Pace thrown to the ground and chocked. She again broke free and used a garden rack to defend herself cutting Pace to the head. She was then able to flee the residence and get to her vehicle where she used her cell phone to call for help. She then drove to a neighbours where police and an ambulance were called. Pace then fled the residence and went to HWY #7 where he flagged down a car. Pace advised the driver of the car that he had been assaulted. The car was located by officers on HWY #7 and County Road #46 in Havelock where Pace was taken into custody without incident. Pace has been charged with "Assault with a Weapon" "Assault Cause Bodily Harm" "Uttering Death Threats" and "forcible Confinement". Pace has been held for a "bail Hearing" for Monday May 10, 2004 in Provincial Court Peterborough. The "case worker" was treated and released at hospital for her injuries. Motor Vehicle Collisions Involving Deer — Within
the last month there has been dozens upon dozens of vehicle collisions reported
to the O.P.P. in North Kawartha, mainly involving
deer. The hot spots for deer movement seem to be on HWY 28 (especially
near Woodview), and County Roads 504 and 620. Make sure to pay close attention
while driving at night, and use your high beams to spot deer in advance. |
