Leslie Tucker Donates Hair for Cancer

Miss Tucker

Six year-old Leslie Tucker has decided to skip the annual Saturday birthday party to join the Cops for Cancer event at the Peterborough Memorial Center on June 26th where she will be donating one foot of her hair to be weaved to create a wig that will be worn by a person who has lost their hair from cancer treatment(s).

Leslie will also be celebrating not only her seventh birthday, but also her father, Dale’s second year being cancer free.

Burleigh Road Historical Society

On June 8, 2004 we will have a representative of the Trent Valley Archives who will discuss with us the writing of a book on the history of Burleigh and Anstruther.

July 1, 2004 we will be taking part in the parade and man an information booth in the park.

Blackfly Summer Theatre Company


The Blackfly Summer Theatre Company will offer Apsley residents and vacationers a variety of light-spirited live plays during the summer months.

theatre masks  We are working closely with Gary Giraldi of Parks and Recreation, who will help us convert the arena floor into a full-blown theatre during the show’s 2-week run.

Employment opportunities for the community will include production staff and actors. Theatre will provide a chance for people of all ages to participate. Young people will be introduced to new skills while working with experienced crews, and theatre enthusiasts will enjoy working at the venue.

The Blackfly Summer Theatre Company comprises Daniel Boileau and Pippa Strachan, both of whom have extensive experience in professional and amateur theatre.

Daniel Boileau’s
experience includes on- and off-stage work for various theatre groups, most recently with the Rainbow Man Theatre Group, as stage manager, lighting and sound technician, and actor. Last year he travelled to over 35 towns across Ontario to present “How to Hug a Porcupine,” a children’s theatrical play about bullying.  

Pippa Strachan’s experience includes roles in  “Who’s Afraid of Virginia Wolfe,” Bernard Shaw’s “Man of Destiny,” and many other productions.

Thanks to local merchants Stephens and MacDonald Shell in Apsley, Apsley’s Cottage and Gift Shoppe on Hwy 28, and Posies Flowers and Gifts in Bancroft who are selling tickets to the show as of July 1st at $15/ticket.
