Lobster Lady helps Janice and Chuck Griffith admire the gift they received at their good-bye party. REFLECTIONS on WATER by Heather Brooks-Hill "Now is our last chance to get the future right." (Ronald Wright; A Short History of Progress by Ronald Wright: House of Anansi Press Inc., Toronto, 2004 CBC's Massey Lectures - P.132) Native elders say that women are the keepers of the water....where have we been? How many of you men, women, children feel the urgency of the potential loss, abuse and destruction of the queen of wine? Wright says: "....that the health of land and water - and of woods, which are the keepers of water - can be the only lasting basis for any civilization's survival and success...." (ibid. P.105) I have always been riveted by the sparkling waves, the fierce winds whipping up the storm, the calm reflection of peace and tranquility. Watching it, on it or in it! North Kawartha is blessed with an abundance of water: our lakes, rivers, ponds and wetlands. It is our joy, our life and our future! Protection of its quality and beauty is a top priority. Volunteers are not paid - not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless... |
