Reports Senior Constable Brad Filman #5211 Media Relations Officer Peterborough County OPP 705-742-0401 brad.filman@jus.gov.on.ca The M.A.D.D. (Mothers Against Drunk Drivers) Kawartha Lakes chapter has purchased 1,000 Fox 40 whistles. The whistles are a simple but effective way of signaling on the water for those boaters that fine themselves in distress. The marine units of Peterborough County and City of Kawartha Lakes Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police will distribute these whistles when conducting their patrols. Compliance with boating regulations and the non-use of alcohol will remain the main focus of the marine units. For the year 2004 the Central Region had the highest marine vessel fatalities at 11 out of a Provincial total of 34. "GO" to the Libraries Service Ontario Extended to 34 Public Libraries Across Ontario by Sue Mycroft The Ontario government is improving services to the public by introducing a pilot project that will bring Service Ontario to 34 public and First Nations libraries in rural communities across the province, Minister of Consumer and Business Services Jim Watson announced June 13th. "Service Ontario provides one-step to government information and services," Watson said. "This pilot initiative will help people in under-serviced communities get the government information and services they need, quickly, conveniently and seamlessly." The two partner ministries, Ministry of Culture (MCL) and Ministry of Consumer and Business Services (MCBS) are credited with this initiative and funding provided. North Kawartha Public Library & Lifelong Learning Centre were successful in being selected as one of these locations. Trained staff will be available to help access this information online. PAT (public access terminal) is also available at the Municipal Office. Broadband high-speed Internet is being provided by Nexicom, in cooperation with the Township of North Kawartha. |

This adds up to a short fall at the end of each month. Example; A single parent with two children receive a monthly cheque of $1086.00 from Social Assistance and $201.24 tax benefits for a total of $1287.34 Her expenses are heat, hydro, telephone and food for a total of $1,510.45, so the bottom line is a shortfall of $223.11. There are not any provisions for clothing, personal hygiene, household care items or cleaning supplies. Our goal at the North Kawartha Food Inc. is to try to help with one day's food for our clients. The amount we give is geared to the size of the family involved and we strive to give a fair share to all those in need. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of the people who support the North Kawartha Food Bank Inc. and would appreciate your continued support as people are hungry ever day.
