Congratulations to all the kids who took part in the Community Bike Rodeo.  It was a great day and a great experience for everyone.

Join our members at our Canada Day celebrations.  Participate!! The Community Parade will leave the school at 4:00 PM, travel along Burleigh Street to Wellington and into the Lions Community Park.  We will have two bands playing again this year.  The Havelock Pipe and Drum Marching Band sponsored by Wellington Street Images (thanks Bob & Mike) and the Peterborough Shiners,  sponsored by the Apsley Lions.  Lots of fun in the park for everyone. A donation for our local food bank would be appreciated and a drop box will be available at Hunter’s Store and at the Community Centre.  Enjoy a BBQ at the Lions Booth, (proceeds help fund the fireworks display), games for the children, dance in the park to the music of DJ Charlie then enjoy a fantastic fireworks display at dusk.

The Lions Giant Indoor Flea Market will be held at the Apsley Centre on July 19th.  The doors will open at 8:30 AM to a terrific display of treasures for everyone.  Visit the many tables covered with gifts and crafts from our local artisans and craftspeople.  Enjoy lunch on site and look over  the many great items available at the special auction at 11:00 AM.
Don’t miss this fabulous sale of goods at bargain prices. Something for everyone.

Proceeds from the Flea Market fund community projects and help support local seniors and youth programs.

Our volunteers have planned a busy summer.  As well as our normal procedures such as:  providing resource material for government forms and services, making friendly visits, reassurance checks and delivering meals on wheels, etc., we will also take part in the Canada Day parade. We hope you will cheer us on during the parade, visit us at our display in the Community Centre from noon to 3:00 PM and bring the kids to participate in the games in the park.

On July 4th and 5th we will extend our clothing sales on Friday and be open on Saturday as well. Our special feature this weekend will be a yard sale with lots of toys for the children and other exciting treasures.  Please, visit our table at the Lions Flea Market on Saturday, July 19 where we will have a great display of crafts, clothing and baked goods.  Pick up a ticket on our fabulous draw for a handmade quilt, a terrific basketful of goods to set off picnic table and lastly a jar full of delicious candy.  This will be drawn at our golf tournament at Marvel Rapids on August 17th.

Congratulations to the Apsley Women’s Institute as they celebrate their 75th year in the community.   For information on any of these events, please call the office at 656-4589.
