Make the Difference with Your Attitude
Roy Allen - United Senior Citizens of Ontario, Zone 42

A person's attitude affects everything. The way you relate, respond, and react to people, the way you solve problems, the way you feel about yourself, and how you approach others. If you feel that people are basically interested in being helpful and supportive, then you will be more likely to show a mature interest in people. If you have a strong sense of your strengths and weaknesses, you will tend to feel more comfortable asking for and offering support. A positive attitude to help people, not just criticize, is healthy. It will make it easier to meet and communicate with people, to make new contacts, and build friendly relationships. If you lean towards a negative attitude, you will have social and business problems. This will lead to disruption, misunderstanding, and loss of credibility.

099 at M&M Fundraising Plea

Hi my name is Amanda MacIntosh I am looking for help from the community. I have been chosen as one of the fourteen representatives from Lakefield District Secondary School in The Model United Nations World Politics Course. As part of this course we travel to The Hague and Spain to take part in a conference/debate with approximately 4000 students from all around the world. We have gained the support of M & M Meats in Peterborough as part of our fundraising endeavour they will give us a portion of customer sales who have quoted our number 099 or the name of our school. I am asking that if anyone shops at M & M Meats in Peterborough from now till January 2004 that they mention number 099 or Lakefield District Secondary School to help us raise money to reduce the personal cost for each of us.

I would like to thank all of you who help us with our fundraising while shopping at M & M meats in Peterborough.

Spring is here and to remind us so are the flies, mosquitoes, bugs and an occasional snake. July, no doubt, will bring on summer weather, then, listen to us say “its so hot”. Although regular meetings are over for the summer the Community Centre remains open each Tuesday, 1 to 3.30 pm  to play Euchre.

The County Senior  Euchre Tournament Area Finals were held on June 6th at Royal Gardens in Peterborough. Our own Ruth Tanner and Elaine Reddick won 3rd place which entitles them to attend Ontario Finals next year. Rose Tucker and Darlene Doxsee followed in 4th place. Well done ladies!! We look forward to this event in the coming year.

Our members have been working diligently on a lovely quilt for this year’s Xmas Bazaar Nov 1st 03 Books of tickets will be available to sell no later than Jun. 24th. Your participation in this joint project is greatly appreciated.

In May, Sharon Doran, Senior Resource Agent of the Canadian Customs Revenue Agency gave an excellent presentation on Ontario tax credits as well as touching on medical expenses, pension income, and related deductions for seniors.  The presentation was very informative, and several of our members received personal guidance.
