| Attention
Apsley Voice Editor and Publishers Having recently returned from vacation I was catching up on the local news in the various publications when I came across the Voice and the letter from Roy Allen regarding his dismissal from Community Care. I was appalled to see that our community newsletter would print a letter discussing a personal (and personnel) matter between a volunteer and a community organization. Even if you had bothered to investigate and publish a balanced article covering both sides of the issue, it is still totally inappropriate for the Apsley Voice to get involved. Whose interests are being served? The Voice has demonstrated extremely poor judgment and editorial decision-making by including an article that slanders a well-respected organization like Community Care and it’s hard-working and dedicated coordinator that has devoted herself to this community for over 16 years. I believe an apology to Ms. Downey, and the volunteers and citizens that are involved with the Apsley Community Care is in order and think next time before you decide to publish submissions of such a nature. Shame on you! Sincerely, Carolyn Amyotte Editors note: It is not the mandate of Apsley Voice to report. We will simply let the voices of Apsley be heard. Carolyn, We sincerely appreciate your letter of rebuttal, it was well thought out. All opinions of local interest are usually published and we saw nothing in Mr. Allen's submission slandering the coordinator of Community Care. The mandate of the Apsley Voice is to give a Voice to the Citizens of Apsley, as stated on page 2 of the Apsley Voice we invite people to speak their mind. We don't publish gossip or opinions unless it is under the authorship of the opinion giver who takes full responsibility for said opinion. You may be interested in knowing that the Community Care along with all other non profit organizations in our community are given free space in the Apsley Voice. To the Publishers: It saddens me to read such an defaming, uncalled for letter as that published from Roy Allen re: (Community Care) Fires Volunteer. A letter calling into question the creditability of those in leadership of our local Community Care. You must know that most people do not critically question the articles that you publish, but do form their opinions regarding subjects written or from information that they have read- be it true or not. There are always very good and valid reasons for which a person’s service is terminated. Out of professional expediency these reasons will not always be made public. Please be more selective on your reporting. Helen and Ernie Trotter I may disagree with what you have to say...but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. Voltaire free falling …..

No Soul, No Passion Not sure a thing; I make MY OWN LIGHT with my soul and passion The History of Valentine’s Day Every February, across the country, candy, flowers, and gifts are exchanged between love ones, all in the name of St. Valentine. But who is this mysterious saint and why do we celebrate this day? The history of Valentine’s Day and its patron saint is shrouded in mystery. But we do know that February has long been the month of romance? St. Valentine’s Day, as we know it to be, contains vestiges of both Christian and ancient Roman traditions. So, who was Saint valentine and how did he become associated with this ancient rite? Today, the catholic Church recognizes at least three different saints named Valentine or Valentinus, whom were martyred. One legend contends that Valentine was a priest who served during the third century in Rome. When Emperor Claudius II decided that single men made better soldiers than those with families, he outlawed marriage for young men (his crop of potential soldiers). Valentine, realizing the injustice, defied Claudius and continued t perform marriages in secret. When discovered Claudius ordered he be put to death. |
