Open Letter on Planning:

by Heather Brooks-Hill

Is there time for responsible planning? North Kawartha Council met on Tuesday for the last time this year at Wilson Park Community Centre. Christmas, Hannukah and the New Year will soon have come and gone. Tomorrow is Winter Solstice a time for reflecting on the darkness and to celebrate the coming of new light, at least in our hemisphere. North Kawartha Council has completed two years of governing the Township and now has less than one remaining year in their mandate. Will we see more light shed on planning issues than in the past two years? With alarmingly increased development pressures, will Council be more enlightened in dealing with their last round of ZBL, OPA and minor variance applications?  Will this Council reinstate the Planning Committee for its last few months of life?

Bible Tidbits
Kinunderums?

From the book of Genesis:

God creates light and separates light from darkness, and day from night, on the first day. Yet he didn't make the light producing objects (the sun and the stars) until the fourth day (1:14-19). 1:3-5

Plants are made on the third day before there was a sun to drive their photosynthetic processes (1:14-19). 1:11

God makes the animals and parades them before Adam to see if any would strike his fancy. But none seem to have what it takes to please him.  After making the animals, God has Adam name them all. The naming of several million species must have kept Adam busy for a while. 2:18-20

Cain is worried after killing Abel and says, "Every one who finds me shall slay me." This is a strange concern since there were only two other humans alive at the time -- his parents! 4:14

"And Cain knew his wife." That's nice, but where the did she come from? 4:17

God tells Noah to make one small window (18 inches square) in the 450 foot ark for ventilation. 6:16

IN  MEMORIUM
The Reverend Peter Bishop

Our unique Priest-in-Charge, Peter Bishop, has passed on. He went to spend Christmas with Jesus.

On December 14, 2005, Peter Bishop, 63, of Lakefield, died in a car crash near Port Perry.

Peter is sadly missed by each and every one of his parishioners in Apsley, at St. George’s Anglican Church and at St. Stephen’s Anglican Church.

We have many fond memories of a man who cared.  He was a good friend, teacher, and participant. He was a hard working thoughtful man, full of grace.  A great inspiration to each of us!

Peter & his wife of 33 years, Sheila, joined us in Apsley 3 years ago. They were both Women’s Guild members. He faced each problem we presented and proceeded to solve them.

Under his guidance, St. George’s Church undertook some physical enhancements, prior to Peter leading the congregation in their 130th anniversary celebration on August 7, 2005. He was so proud of all that was done.

We miss you, Peter.

APSLEY CENTRAL PUBLIC SCHOOL

by Julia McColl

Just a few reminders as Apsley Central School gets into the New Year.  The Christmas Concert as always was a success.  Gift baskets were given away at a silent auction that night, and we would like to thank everyone who donated items for the baskets.

Skating started up in January with the remaining days being February 10th, 24th and March 3rd.

Last but certainly not least, the one thing teachers and children should never forget.  The March Break goes from the 10th of March through the 20th.  Have a great 2006.

Parents can come and have a coffee with Mrs. Matthews any Friday from 9:00 until 10:00 am.  If you are interested in volunteering at the school please contact the Principal Susan Mathews at 656-4231

From the Pulpit

by Pastor John Trotter
, Apsley Community Chapel

God has got a great life for you if you will only let Him help you.  You are the one that will have to call out for help and when you do, He will help.  I was sure that the LORD would not help me after the way I lived my life. But he did.

John 3:16 says, For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

He wants to help you, and with him life gets better every day.  There is a way out; His name is Jesus, the one God sent to pay the price so that you could become acceptable with God. When a person asks Jesus to come and live with them and help them, He will.  There is hope and I don’t care where you are at, or how hopeless it seems, with Jesus there is hope.  He is the beginning of life and he can fix your family, heal a broken heart, heal your body, whatever the need, with Him life just gets better and better.

Then after this life ends, there’s heaven:

John 14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.

2 In my Father’s house are many mansions:  if it were not so, I would have told you.  I go to prepare a place for you.

3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there you may be also.

4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.

5 Tomas saith unto him, Lord we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6  Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life:  no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
Jesus is the way to the Father, let him prepare you a place in heaven and enjoy your days down here until then!

Have a good one
