Apsley Santa Claus Parade 2005

On December 5th, 2004 the big jolly fellow in the red suit paid a visit to Apsley to the delight of many children and adults who were in attendance.  Thanks to everyone who volunteered their time to make this event such a success.

Quotes on Canada ...

There are no limits to the majestic future which lies before the mighty expanse of Canada with its virile, aspiring, cultured, and generous-hearted people.

Setback for North Kawartha Medical Centre

Some people like surprises, but imagine the reaction of the Health Task Force when they opened the bids for the new Medical Centre---all 3 of them were well over $500,000!! (and this was not taking over-runs into account).  This was a particular shocker since the architect had estimated $350,000.  It seems that the construction trade was not overly interested, as many of them were still overloaded with jobs as a result of the flood in Peterborough.

So, it is back to the drawing board to look at other possible alternatives.  The present thought is to offer the bids again in the Spring and to reconsider our construction objectives.  One thing is for sure:  we still need financial support!  We are keeping our ears to the ground for anything which might come from the Federal or Provincial Government, but as usual, we don’t want to hold our breath on that one and eventually it will really be up to us.

We did receive some pleasant donations over the Christmas season and we particularly would like to say “thanks” for the $510 raised from Christmas tree sales; with smiles going to Gerald Watson for donating the trees, Wilson’s Building Supplies for selling them, and Pat Carlos for organizing it all.  Well done, folks!

Although we will move into full campaign mode again in
the Spring, if you would like to make any special  donations to our cause in order to honour a birthday, anniversary, etc., we would be most grateful and a tax receipt will be issued.  The same thing holds true for funeral memorials where proper recognition can be acknowledged (Hendron’s and others are aware of our project).

Let’s keep on working with our ideas and efforts despite the “surprise”.  Remember, “the curve in the road isn’t always there to slow us down, but sometimes it prevents us from running straight into the rocks”!  We’ll negotiate this curve, we’ll get there—Hang On!
