Apsley Lions
Apsley Lions Club
by Joan Forsyth

In 2004 the Lions will celebrate thirty years of service to our community.  Their history began in 1974 when the Lakefield Lions Club sponsored a small group of dedicated gentlemen who became the Apsley Lions Club.  As a volunteer group, they have diminished and grown over the years to their current forty-seven members.  Lions International initiated female members into the clubs in 1989 and the Apsley Club accepted their first female member with the transfer of Lioness Betty Gardiner. The members spend many hours each week providing services and raising funds to help support community projects. Among their many activities is sponsorship of the Canada Day activities and parade, as well as the Giant Christmas Tree and Christmas Parade.

The Lions want to thank the community for helping us to help others in our community.  It is because of you, who come out to play bingo, support our summer flea market and boat draw that we are able to make a difference for children, for families, for our seniors and for other local groups.  We are very proud of our community and the community spirit.

On behalf of the Lion’s Christmas Parade Committee I would like to thank all our sponsors who made our parade a huge success and all those participated.
