Apsley Central Public School

What’s New - by Amanda Hickey

This year many changes have taken place at Apsley Central.  One of the first to announce, is the new principal, Mrs. Matthews.  What a super addition to our school.

On October 20th a great effort was put forth to ready our soccer field for the AWRBY’s tournament, lead by Mrs. Chappell, Mrs. Jeff and Mrs. Earnshaw.  We had three teams of players representing our school.  Teams travelled from Ridpath, Warsaw, Buckhorn and Young’s Point public schools to participate in the tournament, which was great fun for everyone.

A parents coffee hour has begun which is being held on Friday mornings in our staff room.  All parent are welcome to come into the school and informally sit for coffee with Mrs. Matthews.  This coffee hour will at times have guests join in, such as Mr. Ed Robertson from the OPP.

There is a student council this year with an addition of a new team of students who will discuss ideas for ‘spirit and change’ within individual classes.  Headed by Mrs. Chappell and Mrs. Matthews, the new group will be called ‘CAST’ or ‘Character Academic Student Team.’
This group is a voice for their peers.  A bulletin board will be placed outside the gym to display pictures of school activities and events.

The school is looking for people to assist with getting a breakfast program started.  Please contact Mrs. Matthews at 656-4231 if you can help.

Operation ‘Shoe Box’ has just been completed.  Students have packed shoe boxes with useful items such as toys, dolls, crayons, toothbrushes etc.  These boxes will be sent to children in less fortunate areas of the world.  All donations were greatly appreciated and many thanks for your generosity.

Finally, this November 11th, all students participated in the Remembrance day ceremony at the Apsley Legion.  They were lead by the Legion Colour Guard and piper Mr. Donald Grant.  A wreath was placed by Apsley students Emily Jackson, Ashley Crouch and Tyler Hynes.
