Community Care
by Joan Forsyth The staff and volunteers at Community Care are pleased that two of their volunteers have recently received recognition as dedicated volunteers. Dorothy Richmond was presented with the Senior of the Year award by the North Kawartha Council on Tuesday, July 12. She has been an active volunteer: with the Glen Alda Seniors and their Diners Club, Apsley Community Care where she was fundraising chair for over ten years as well as organizing the Women’s Golf group, worked extensively with the United Church Women and helped as a volunteer with the Apsley Lions Club. Congratulations to a very dedicated senior volunteer! Doug May was presented with the County Award for Volunteerism in June. He has covered many miles throughout the County when driving for the organization, taking seniors wherever they had to go for appointments. Congratulations, Doug! Thanks So Much! To Liz & Bill Johnston Thank you for publishing on-line. I don't get back to Ontario very often and miss going to Apsley to visit some family members. I keep informed of the goings on through the Apsley Voice. The community is remarkable. The new medical centre and new school are great to see as out here in Alberta our rural areas are slowly being shut down. I thought the Teleprimary Care Project was wonderful as consideration of where you live is not a factor for the time or location of appointments. The StarBooks is another great idea, what a way to boost the library! Keep on the good work on the Apsley Voice and I look forward to the next edition! Kelly Pike North Kawartha Health Centre Contributions The Township of North Kawartha wishes to thank the Paudash Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club for a very generous donation of $10,000.00 to the North Kawartha Health Centre. Our apologies are extended for omitting the Club as a major donor in our recent newsletter.

LOTS OF SMILES WHEN FUNDRAISING
FOR THE MEDICAL CENTRE
by Cal Taillefer It is so true; Katie, Jeannie and I smile a lot as we see that old thermometer rise with each donation. This is an amazing community and we are blessed to be part of it! I will start off with an apology and by eating some humble pie: last month I reported that the Anglican W.I donated $500, but that group actually does not exist! Instead, the Apsley Women's Institute donated $500 with a further pledge of $1000. The Anglican Women's Guild also donated, and to further confuse me, St. George the Martyr Anglican Church donated $500. Not having been invited to join either of the women's groups (and not much chance now!) I did not pick up on the distinction. So sorry, folks. Our sympathies go out to the Carlos family. Pat served on the Health Task Force and if you'll remember was the chief organizer for the Medical Centre campaign kickoff in the form of the dinner/dance. This project was her passion and we shall all greatly miss her. Well, the Lipperts have done it again! Having heard that Preston was donating his time and equipment to increase our septic system, they have decided to donate the materials. What a generous couple. The surrounding townships are starting to recognize our cause and in appreciation for our serving many people from their areas, we have received $2000 from Havelock-Belmont-Methuen and $500 from Wollaston. If you were wondering, the Tucker Marine challenge is still on ($100 per employee), and our local Paramedics have met that challenge. Creative Wendy Clear gave a surprise birthday party for husband Doug and donated the bar proceeds of $1000 to us. Tony Assinck has been busy--along with all of his Lions activities-building a grandfather clock which he then sold for $1400 with that coming to us. Congratulations to the folks from Buckhorn who bought it. Even the Apsley Easy Walkers have done more than walk, by making a donation. Further, donations in memoriam of Bud Post, Betty Trotter, and Ted McCaw have not yet been tallied but are appreciated in a time of bereavement. Many thanks to Chris Bailey and Katie Jackson for getting our website up and running. Please visit us at www.northkawarthahealthcentre.ca Please see the article on the run/walk. They still need volunteers to help at the event and of course, would love to see the multitudes come out and participate. Thanks to all who are helping in this great project---keep on, and keep us smiling! |
