Quotes on Canada Many Canadian nationalists harbour the bizarre fear that should we ever reject royalty, we would instantly mutate into Americans, as though the Canadian sense of self is so frail and delicate a bud, that the only thing stopping it from being swallowed whole by the US is an English lady in a funny hat. OPEN HOUSE A Library in 2005 is more than Books!! Tour & Refreshments Saturday, August 6th 10-12 Apsley Lions Club by Joan Forsyth
Thanks to everyone who took part in the community parade
and to those who helped out with the children’s games. It was a lot
of fun.The July 1st Fireworks display was cancelled due to high winds in the area. The Lions are sorry for any inconvenience it caused but hoped everyone enjoyed the live entertainment in the hall. The date for the display has not been set as yet. The Boat and Motor tickets are going well but they won’t last forever so be sure and pick up your ticket soon. The boat is supplied by Tucker Marine this year. It is a really nice Lund boat with a 9.9 hp motor and E-Z load trailer. Second prize in the draw is the working Lighthouse and third prize is the Dutch Windmill. You will be proud to display these prizes in your yard. Special thanks to Lion Tony Assinck, who crafted and donated these beautiful gifts for the Lions. The draw will be held August 24 at the Apsley Community Centre during the Wednesday night bingo. Thank you for your continued support of the Lions community projects. We’ll see you on the 24th! Good Luck! NORTHKAWARTHA.COM
Your connection to the community. Jeff Sayers, Barb Sayers & Paul Kirkham Founded in 2003 by Apsley Multimedia, www.apsley.ca was introduced as Apsley's community web site providing information about the community to permanent and seasonal residents, as well as visitors to the area. And now, Apsley Multimedia brings us into a new year introducing a collaborative community web site: www.northkawartha.com; a new and improved web site for visitors and residents of the Township of North Kawartha to communicate online, and access useful information about the area including an accurate, up-to-date business directory with links to web sites, an improved community message board for residents and visitors to communicate over the internet, a guide to natural attractions in the area, and many more exciting features with many more to come. Access to all information is free of course, and we encourage all residents and visitors to check out the expanded site serving the North Kawartha community. North Kawartha Health Centre 5k Run-Walk & Kids 1k Fun Run August 13th by Neil Longhurst The Apsley Lakers Running Club will put on a 5k Run /Walk and Kids 1k Fun Run on Saturday August 13th, as a fundraiser for the North Kawartha Health Centre building expansion. The run will start and finish at the Apsley Community Centre, and will include a loop around County Road #504, Jack Lake Road, and McFadden, then a second loop with an out-and-back section on McFadden Road. The road sections will be closed to traffic while the race is on. The 5k starts at 8:30am, and the Kids Run (on McFadden Road) at 9am. This is a Run and Walk. Although there will be some competitive runners up front, there will be lots of slower runners and walkers, so nobody need worry about being left behind. Entry forms are available at the township office, at the IGA and Library, online at www.runningroom.com, or on race day at the Community Centre from 7am to 8:15am. Entry includes a t-shirt with a unique design, door prize entry, and refreshments after the race. For details contact Neil Longhurst at 656-4065 (or neillongh@yahoo.com). |
