| A Peterborough man
is dead, and a young woman was taken to Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital,
as a result of a four-vehicle collision that occurred around 7:30 PM in the
evening of June 25th, 2004 on Highway # 28 north of Young's Point. OPP arrived at the scene of the collision on Highway # 28 at Kawartha Park Road to find a severely damaged white 2000 Ford Windstar overturned on its roof. Also involved was a 1992 Chevrolet pick up truck grey in colour, and a red 1990 Ford Probe car. The investigation has revealed that a northbound Windstar van occupied by 5 people was followed by a pick up truck, occupied by two people. There was a third north bound vehicle. At the time of the collision, this vehicle was passing other north bound vehicles. It was not at the scene when officers arrived. A southbound car on Highway # 28, a Ford Probe, was occupied by 43 - year old Eldon Joseph Mosher and 19 - year old Amanda Mosher, both of Peterborough. As the south bound Ford Probe approached Kawartha Park Road it travelled onto the shoulder to avoid a collision with the passing north bound vehicle. The Ford Probe went out of control and was in collision with both the north bound Windstar and the Chevrolet pick up truck. Eldon Joseph Mosher (43) was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Amanda Mosher (19), was trapped in the wreckage of the Ford Probe for a period of time till freed by the Fire Department's Rescue Unit. She was later airlifted to Sunnybrook Hospital. Taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre with non-life threatening injuries were 7 individuals ranging in age from 10 to 46 years old. It was a clear, dry evening. Witnesses provided OPP with a description of a suspect vehicle and driver, alleged to have caused the collision. 11 days later, officers from Peterborough County Detachment attended the Pickering residence of Patrick Wilson 47 years. Wilson was arrested and taken back to Peterborough. Wilson has been charged with one count of "dangerous operation causing death" and two counts of "dangerous operation causing bodily harm". Wilson has been released on an undertaking with conditions. One of the conditions are that he "not operate a motor vehicle". He is scheduled to appear in Provincial Court in Peterborough on September 8th, 2004. |
