The clouds faded away just a few hours before the start of this years Canada Day Parade and we were left with a spectacular, warm, sunny July day for what many consider Apsley’s best parade in years.

We all thank Aunt Dar for another job well done as the M.C. for the parade, as well as all the organizing staff for their great effort. It really showed as children, adults, and seniors crowded the roadside with smiles, cheers, and the odd water balloon.

Rosalie McCall (the Grand Marshall) driven by Roger Challinor, started the parade followed by 49 entries which made this our largest parade yet. A big thank you to all who participated!

After the parade everyone who could, hung out at the Lion’s Park to consume hot dogs and hamburgs from the Lion’s Booth and greet the participants and the friends from the community..

Cal Taillefer was seen with his receipt book getting donations for the Medical Centre extension and talking to the members of the council and other important people.

In the evening after the Canada Day Ceremony, many people made their way to the Legion to indulge in a steak dinner and perhaps a brew or two. This event had an excellent turn out as the Legion was packed with people. Thanks to everyone who came out to support out Legion.

CELEBRATIONS!

“Another Spectacular Fireworks Show put on by the Apsley Lion's Club!”
-Jeff Sayers

Fireworks filled the night sky with an array of beautiful colours. Everyone thought the fireworks show was amazing! Each year they seem to get better and better, and it seems the crowd gets bigger and bigger. It’s nice to see this great level of support in our community.

And just in case you didn’t get your fill of fireworks with the Apsley showing, Woodview postponed their fireworks show until July 2nd because of another event, so if you planned it right you were able to get twice the entertainment!

It is this type of event which makes this area a special place to live and bring up a family. We all know each other and have that good feeling of being part of everything around us.

We truly appreciate the work that the Lion’s Club and the Beautification Committee put into this event, as well as the countless supporters and volunteers who helped make this year even more special than last. See you next year for an even bigger and better Canada Day celebration!

Thanks to one and all for your support of the Canada Day Parade and activities.  It is a challenge to put this together for the community but well worth the effort when everyone enjoys the event.  There was a great display of floats this year, the best yet!  The activities in the Park were well attended. Special thanks to our local groups for their splendid games for the children and the displays.  The music in the hall received a welcome response from many of our folks and we have been asked to continue this event next year. Thanks to Lion Wayne and his crew for that fabulous display of fireworks. It has often been debated whether to continue the display or use the money in other ways but I hope you agree that we all need a little fun sometime.

It has been a very good summer to date.  The Lions have been working very hard to make up the sums necessary to honour our pledge for the Medical Centre renovation.  It has been interesting taking on several little chores that we had not worked on before.  The School Talent Night was such an evening.  The children have talent and it was a good place to express it. Thanks for your support.

Pick up your ticket for the Boat & Motor draw as the tickets are moving very well. The draw will be held on Wednesday, August 25 at the Apsley Community Centre.  I wish you luck!
