Big Smiles and Racing Through the Aisles at Sayers IGA! by Caroline Elder The snow storm of Saturday, February 25th couldn’t chill the excitement at Sayers IGA; as well known resident Marie Watson, prepared for her $500.00 shopping spree. She is the first of 3 shopping spree winners, to be awarded in Apsley, as part of the Great Grocery Giveaway contest. Marie received the call earlier in the week, letting her know that her ballot was drawn and she was a winner. She would have 2 minutes to shop for $500.00 worth of free groceries. “I’m in here every day and I know my way around!” Marie exclaimed.
Brian Sayers announced the count-down to start, and Marie was off. As the seconds ticked by, meat, cheese and coffee were big on her list. Then, with two jugs of juice in her hands, Brian announced, “5 seconds left”. Tossing the juice in the cart, Marie ran to the freezer section and grabbed one of her favourites- carrot cake! While Lois began checking out the 4 shopping carts containing Marie’s efforts, Marie happily announced “It’s just such a boost at this time of year…I didn’t think it could happen to me, I’m so excited it did! March is birthday month in our house. Now, all the big dinners are set, and the turkey is for Easter!” The grand tally was almost right on, at $500.71. Well done Marie! On Saturday, March 11th, Gary Kimberley also experienced the excitement first-hand, as the three minute, $1000.00, shopping spree winner. Gary was sure to take care of his dog-food needs and also planned to support the North Kawartha Food Bank with some of his winnings. Congratulations Gary! One more $500.00 shopping spree winner will share in the fun on April 1st.
