Tuesday February 15, 2005

At 7:41 P.M. officer's attended at a Single vehicle collision on Highway #28 in North Kawartha Township. A 2000 G.M.C. pickup truck had been northbound in bad weather when the driver, Beatrice Blair 46 years of Baptiste Lake Road R.R. 32 Bancroft, Ontario lost control and slid off the road hitting a rock cut. Blair and her daughter, Janine Blair 20 years were taken to the Peterborough Regional Health Centre by ambulance with Serious but non life threatening injuries. Due to the weather conditions no charges were laid.

The Ontario Provincial Police want to remind motorists and passengers to buckle-up.  Every year people die needlessly because they didn’t take the time to ensure they were properly secured.

In 2004, 30% of the fatal crashes in OPP area of eastern Ontario were as a result of the victims not wearing seatbelts.

The Eastern Region OPP, recognizing that seatbelt safety is a major safety concern, have focused one of the main strategies of their 2005 business plan to reducing seatbelt related deaths.  Officers will focus on the increase of seatbelt usage of motorists using eastern Ontario roads.

Through education and enforcement, the OPP will be reminding motorists that buckling up is a must; it’s the law.  Saving your life is cheaper for your family than losing you…permanently.

Seatbelts save lives … make it yours.

Minor Hockey News

Feb 26th Apsley Minor Hockey had a Lasagna Dinner and Dance. In order to raise funds for the kids they had a silent auction and also a loonie auction. I’m sure they must have raised a lot of money as everyone dug deep to support the cause. A jacket won by Doug Martin went for $350.  This same jacket had been previously won by a draw for $400. The winner didn’t pick it up so a year later they auctioned it off.
