Many of Betty's family were in attendance as well as friends and members of the Lions. A candle was lit and her favourite hymn Amazing grace was sung. Betty will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

The Year of the Veteran
by Bill Johnston

May 8th marks the 60th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe.  There will be a celebration that includes a trip back to Holland., along with the opening of a new Canadian War Museum in Ottawa that will have its opening ceremony in the afternoon of May 8th with some veterans participating.

After seeing pictures and data of the new Museum in the Legion magazine, those interested in history or vehicles it should be well worth the visit.

To All of our Veterans may you have a good year.

Farewell to Friends

Dust to Dust

We wend our way to the village spire
To quietly say farewell
We mix emotions of grief and ire
Of a loss to nature's knell

We rue the loss of someone dear
We're sad that life must end
They leave us still with death to fear
But with life's joys and tears to tend

They lived so well, and death's not vile
The comfort words preferred
The men in hard white collars smile
And say glory's now conferred

On whom, we ask does glory rest
To die's a fearful thing
No psalm makes death a favor blessed
Despite the words that ring

Of hollow comfort, shallow joy
As if in loss we gain
A loved one, sister, mother lost
Not ere to love again

Why can we not feel human rage
Be angry when our fellows die
Exhaust our sorrow and write the page
That asks this God, "Say why!"
