Apsley Public School
By Janet McDougall
The Apsley Lion's Club has been unbelievably generous in donating all proceeds from the Oct.18th Lasagna Dinner & Auction to the Apsley School Council. The evening was a tremendous success. We cannot begin to thank everyone enough. Donations of lasagna, items for the silent auction and live auction, donations for the raffle table, platinum Leafs tickets for raffle, and of course donations of time... are deeply appreciated. The Apsley community is amazing. The evening's events have raised $8000. Yes, you read the right number! The major impetus for this fund raiser this year is our goal of improving the school playground. This is a huge undertaking and will continue to require ongoing fund raising. While focusing on the playground, it is important that the other very worthwhile activities the Council is involved in are not forgotten. The Apsley School Council is actively involved in supporting many aspects of the school program. Each year the School Council provides funding:

daughter Kimberly Eve Howson who passed away suddenly March 7, 2004. She was a mother of Michael and Rachel who now reside with us and Ryan of Peterborough. A trust fund has been established for the children. Apsley Community Chapel has generously offered to accept these funds, which will be held in trust for the children. Donations can be made at Donia’s Tim-Br Mart and at the Royal Bank. We would also like to thank the those friends and neighbours who helped us during Richard’s surgery. The many rides, cards , flowers, fruit and well wishes were gratefully appreciated. In particular, the delivery of firelogs which was cut and split. The spirit of this community is an inspiration to all of us. Words are not enough to express our thanks It was said to us that it takes a whole village to raise a child. Your acts have shown us the way. Thank You. |
