Legion News

RCL BRANCH 381 APSLEY

     Congratulations to the winners of the Public Speeches competition held March 2, 2004.     First place awards went to:  Nick Earnshaw (Grades 4-6), Jenn Conlin (Grades 7-8), and Lori White (Grades 9-10).  Branch 381 would like to send a special thank you to each participant in this event; you each did a great job!   Nick, Jenn and Lori will participate in the district competition to be held March 20, 2004, at Hastings Legion.   Good Luck!

     Certificates were recently presented at Apsley Public School for the Poster and Literary Contest.  The following youth were winners at the Zone Level:  Amanda Hickey, 3rd Place Poems Junior (Grades 4-6);  Hayden Lamb, 3rd Place Poems Intermediate (Grades 7-8);  Dallas Cooney, 3rd Place Black & White Posters Junior (Grades 4-6);  Laura Marshall, 3rd Place Black & White Posters Intermediate (Grades 7-8);   Caitlyn Evans, 1st Place Colour Posters Primary (Grades 1-3). 
The following youth were winners at the District Level:  Caitlyn Evans, 1st Place Colour Poster Primary (Grades 1-3).    Caitlyn’s poster has now advanced to the Provincial Level.  We are anxiously awaiting the results at this time.    Good Luck Caitlyn!! 

     The North Kawartha Ambassadors met with council on Tuesday, March 2, 2004.  Senior Ambassador Lori White and Junior Ambassador Amanda Hickey each received a Certificate of Merit from council.   We wish to thank council for endorsing our Ambassadors and look forward to working with them in the future.

     The Fourth Annual Tommy Foster Memorial Shuffle Board Tournament was held at Branch 381 on March 6, 2004.  First place went to Grace Robson and Dave Harman; second place went to Bill Scott and Dave Shore.   Thank you to everyone who made this event great as always!   

 Upcoming Events:

 Saturday, April 17, 2004:  Open Dart Tournament.   Blind draw; four-person teams.  Entry fee $5.00 per person.   Registration begins at 9:00 AM; Play begins at 10:00 AM.  Space is limited; maximum 56 players.   Reserve your space now by contacting Art Reid, Sports Chairman, at 656-9208.  Lunch will be available. 

 Saturday, April 24, 2004:  Spring Dance.  8:00 PM-1:00 AM.  $6.00 per person.  Music provided by DJ Charlie.    Everyone is welcome!    Saturday, May 22, 2004:  Outdoor BBQ.   Hamburgers, hot dogs, and peameal bacon on a bun. Please stop by for lunch!
